When watchmaker Gerd-Rudiger Lang born 1943 took a leap into professional independence in 1981, he had it all going for him: an idea, with the courage, determination and daring to carry it out, plus an enormous stock of watch parts. What triggered the move was the liquidation of Heuer Time Germany, and with it his job as branch manager. In his search for a new activity, Lang, who had adopted Munich as his home town, saw that despite the quartz revolution, there were still plenty of people who hankered after a real mechanical time-piece. He acquired for them so-called Retro-models from Switzerland - modern wristwatches in the period design of early decades. By 1984, Lang was no longer satisfied as a dealer in imported goods. He wanted his own collection. It was thus that the first genuine CHRONOSWISS model came about, in a limited edition launched in 1988 under the name of "Regulateur". Since then the brand, once dismissed as an outsider, has evolved into a serious player in the apparently still buoyant market for quality watches. This "Regulateur" had a Unitas cal 6376Z 13''' lever movement, manually wound, 17j.
